About Us

Learning to Love Literacy has been developed with enthusiasm and eye for detail by two educators, Shirley Fuller and Irene Reardon, who have over 50 years combined experience in the education arena.

Shirley Fuller (PSM) – Author

Having completed her initial teacher training at Armidale Teachers College, to become a secondary mathematics and science teacher, Shirley Fuller has enjoyed a lifelong career in education. She is passionate about improving the learning outcomes of students from preschool to Year 12 and beyond.

Her experience includes secondary mathematics, science and physical education teaching, primary teaching in all subjects, librarianship and resource centre coordination, tutoring students in mathematics at secondary level and in preparation for some university courses.

During the latter half of her career she served as an education consultant: as a curriculum consultant, literacy consultant and Country Areas Program (CAP) Consultant working with teachers and students and their school communities in rural and isolated schools across NSW. The focus areas with CAP included quality improvement, quality teaching and learning and quality technology within teaching and learning.

Shirley believes strongly in providing professional development and support for teachers, parents and caregivers so they experience increasing competence and confidence in their provision of learning activities for the children in their care both in the classroom and the home and social environment.

Shirley was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June 2011 being awarded the Public Service Medal for extensive service to rural education for over 40 years.

Since retiring from fulltime employment with NSW Department of Education she continues to support school communities through the provision of professional learning workshops for teachers, parents and community members and has embarked on a future as an author.
